National Center on Intensive Intervention
The National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII) is housed at the American Institutes for Research, and works in conjunction with many of the United States' most distinguished data-based individualization (DBI) experts. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and is part of OSEP's Technical Assistance and Dissemination Network (TA&D). The Mission of the NCII is to build capacity of state and local education agencies, universities, practitioners, and other stakeholders to support implementation of intensive intervention in reading, mathematics, and behavior for students with severe and persistent learning and/or behavioral needs. NCII has an incredible amount of information condensed into user friendly charts and guides.
NCII has developed six tools charts intended to assist educators and families in becoming informed consumers who can select academic and behavioral assessment tools and interventions that meet standards for technical rigor and address their specific needs. Review and compare the technical adequacy and implementation requirements of academic and behavioral assessments (screening and progress monitoring) and interventions to select tools that meet your needs.
Successfully implementing intensive intervention using the data-based individualization (DBI) process demands multiple components and structures of support, including strong leadership support, examining current capacity and readiness, ongoing professional learning made up of training and coaching, development of efficient and effective procedures and intervention plans, ongoing evaluation and review of implementation to inform continuous improvement, and engagement of parents and families as partners in the work. The Implementation Support section of the website includes tools and resources to support effective implementation of DBI. Find tools and resources related to intensive intervention implementation, including readiness activities, training and coaching, and ongoing implementation efforts.
NCII's Resource Library contains documents, presentations, sample lessons and activities, self-paced and training modules, tools/tips, videos, voices from the field, and webinars about literacy, reading, writing, mathematics, and behavioral intervention implementation guidance and considerations.
